Welcome to the Spring update of the Gates College blog. It has been a busy couple of months for Gates College and despite not being at the top of the leader board we are still giving it all we've got and we are more than 'ready to fly'!
Four Gates girls took part in the national cricket championships at Lords and came away as the 3rd best Under 13's cricket team in th country. The girls have written a short statement about their experiencE
As we arrived at Lords there was already a team practising there, but we got the whole second court to get in some last minute practice before the competition started. In the first match we won which gave us the confidence boost and courage to take on the other teams in the battle for 1st place. Sadly, we lost the second match by 3 runs making it a very tense and close game. the third game we won after lots of hard work and plenty of encouragement from all members of the team. Our final game was with a private school called Godolphin and Latimer who had some super cricketers but we kept up and fought with everything we had. Sadly this wasn't enough and we lost the game. In the end we came 3rd which means we ar the 3rd best U13's team in the country. We're all incredibly proud of each other and we continue to practice or cricket skills supporting each other as a team.
Thanks to fern, georgia, bethan and ruth and a massive on congratulations
On Wednesday 17th May we visited Blackpool to participate in a regional track and field competition. The girls had a tough start but steadily progressed. While the boys were off to a flying start with some key students really performing fabulously. The boys finished their track events with a great lead at the top of the table. As we moved onto the field events our success continued. Overall it was a great day and with all the scores combined we finished a very respectable 3rd place. We are now through to the next round and are all really looking forward to it.
